Dear President Obama,

During your trip in Turkey last monday you asked for peace in this country. I write you today to ask you to give help, in the name of peace, to stray animals in Turkey, which are regularly slaughtered. Despite Turkish law which requires the building of shelters for dogs,  town mayor's don't care, and animals are eliminated by extremely painful methods:
-crushed alive/buried alive
-injections of poisoning which are slow and painful
-neglects in far woods to a certain death from starvation and dehydration
-others are tortured and violated
Please click on the links below to see the situation there.  Is this a behavior worthy of a country which want to join Europe?  As Gandhi said:
"The greatness of a nation can be judged by how it treats its animals."
I think you'll agree that when one is capable of so vile acts against innocent animals and sensitive, it is the same to human beings. That is why I appeal to you so that the treatment of stray dogs in Turkey is no longer synonymous with brutality and death, and I sincerely hope that you will do everything in your power to give an end to the nightmare that these animals live in this country.

Sincerely,

Respecteusement.

RE:  Please do not advertise fur on the Washingtonian Magazine
TO:  jlimpert@washingtonian.com, jsdalphonse@washingtonian.com, kdecell@washingtonian.com, bosullivan@washingtonian.com

Dear Washingtonian Editors:

I am appalled to learn that a respected publication like The Washingtonian promotes wearing fur in both its feature articles and advertising.

In a time of green living, and in light of the recent economic downtown, your magazine has a prime opportunity to present a 'better', more responsible capital city to your readers. We know the fur industry is a cruel and irresponsible one. Animals can suffer in traps for days before trappers return to bludgeon them to death. Farm-raised animals are killed by gassing, neck-breaking and anal electrocution in order to preserve their pelts. But despite these facts, consider these key points as well:

--Top clothing designers increasingly are going fur-free, with Donna Karan the most recent addition to the growing list of designers of fur-free couture, including Calvin Klein, Stella McCartney and Tommy Hilfiger. Major retailers, such as Ann Taylor, Talbots and Overstock.com, are quickly following suit: The Internal Markets and Consumer Protection Committee of the European Parliament on March 2 voted in favor of prohibiting trade in seal products in the European Union. The EU is close to supporting a complete ban on the trade of skin from seals slaughtered in Canada; Consumers are no longer willing to pay for the 'luxury' of fur. According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, fur imports were down 18 percent in the first three quarters of 2008, compared with the same period in 2007.

Isn't it time for The Washingtonian to step out of the 1950s, and into an era of an eco-friendly, informed Washington? Until it discontinues the promotion of fur, I am boycotting your magazine and asking friends, family and coworkers to do the same.

New Mexico: Ban trapping!
TO:  mkrscrim@gmail.com, nmdept.ofgameandfish@state.nm.us

I, the undersigned, seek to prohibit the recreational and commercial use of hidden steel-jaw leg-hold traps, wire snares and other body-gripping animal traps on New Mexico's public lands.  These traps do not reliably differentiate between the intended target and many other non-target animals which may be cruelly maimed or killed. People and pets are also at risk. Unlimited, profit-driven trapping can harm and deplete wildlife communities. The use of traps is NOT consistent with the "fair chase" principles of ethical hunting.

Ninety percent of New Mexico residents believe trapping should be banned on public lands, according to a report released today by a panel of seven New Mexico citizens. The report was created through online surveys organized by the People's Forum on Public Lands Trapping in New Mexico.  The use of body-gripping traps is extremely cruel, and inhumane.

The suffering of animals caught and held by leg hold traps for long hours or days is unjustifiable: they struggle to be free, the agony of a limb imprisoned in sub-zero cold, the pain of injuries caused by the all-out fight to escape, the broken teeth from biting at the trap, the thirst, hunger, anxiety, terror, the menace of attack by other animals. Additionally, trappers club the animal, then stands on its chest to cause suffocation.

Barbaric and cruel, trapping must cease in New Mexico. It's high time New Mexico catch up with Arizona and Colorado and other states that have banned public lands trapping.

1849 C Street, N.W. / Washington DC 20240

Dear Sir,

The most recent population estimate for the United States is more than 25 years old and there are no population estimates for Canada or Mexico.  According to 2001 statistics provided from actual sales of hunting permits, over 40,000 bobcats are still being killed each year. This figure does not include all the bobcats killed by hunters who do not buy licenses nor report their kills. Less than 3% of our population are hunters but they kill over 100 million animals each year for sport.  They are also trapped in the wild with cruel leg-hold traps for their fur, which is made into garments. More than 53,000 skins are traded internationally every year and the level has increased five-fold since 1995. The United States is the largest exporter.

The illegal trade in endangered and threatened lynx species and bobcat skins cannot be distinguished even by forensic analysis from those of other lynx species, including the critically endangered Iberian lynx, and other endangered and threatened lynx species including the Eurasian lynx, Canada lynx and Mexican bobcat.

Stop exporting bobcat skins. There hasn't been a population estimate in over 25 years, therefore you couldn't possible know if the cat is endangered, or when it might become endangered.

The leopard is also listed as "near threatened" by the International Union Conservation of Nature- and the sale or possession of its parts is illegal in South Africa.

Yet thousands of leopard skins are showing up and being used as essential attire for religious ceremonies, threatening the leopard with extinction.

150 leopards may be legally poached, but thousands are openly traded at church gathering with no law enforcement.

Petsmart is selling cat toy made of real fur. It also does not specify which type of animal was used.  By its look, it could be cat fur which is largely used in China to make accessories and other useless trinkets, and it is illegal to sell cat or dog fur in the United States.  Please see here how fur is made:

We have come into communication with some of your customers who have received your replies to this protest. You stated that you do not sell fur products, however your products state plainly that they are real fur. In this, you have misguided these customers who would otherwise never purchase such offensive product.

Regardless, as a store specialized on animal products for the well being of animals, you should be at least embarrassed to sell items like real fur which is derived from the horrific suffering of animals that are skinned alive for fur in China.  Not everyone is immoral to knowingly buy such a merchandise for their pets, and you have the moral obligation to sell ethical products in your store.

Do you not think that selling real fur of cat or rabbit in a animal oriented shop is rather unethical and cynical?  Please remove these unethical products from your shelves, and until then I will not buy anything from your shop and will ask everyone I know to do the same.

Federal conservation programs have been crucial in preventing the Florida panther from going extinct, but right now these and many other programs that are important to wildlife conservation are at risk of getting cut by Congress.

Governor McCrory,

Seven endangered red wolves have been shot and killed in North Carolina in 2012.
Due to a law that permits night hunting, the red wolves are mistaken for coyotes. The rule change that allows night hunting threatens the Red Wolf with extinction.

Having gone extinct in the wild in the 1980's, captive bred red wolves were re-introduced in 1987 on Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge in north eastern North Carolina. The estimated wild red wolf population is between 100 and 120 animals.

People still carry their beliefs that top-level predators are dangerous and must be eliminated even though red wolves are elusive and generally avoid humans and human activity.

I urge you to ban night hunting. The Red Wolf cannot recover.

Virginia: Stop the penning!
TO:  Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries <dgifweb@dgif.virginia.gov>

Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries
Attn. Policy Analyst and Regulatory Coordinator
4016 West Broad Street
Richmond, Virginia 23230

To whom it concerns,

The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF) is proposing to amend state regulations on penning.

However, the proposed regulations would not ban the practice outright, but merely establish standards that will allow much of the cruelty to continue unabated—and can even be waived at the discretion of the VDGIF director, should they be deemed too 'onerous' for a penning facility operator.

Please ban penning outright, or--at minimum--put forth regulations that do not allow these minimal requirements to be waived for any operators.

Coyote and fox penning is barbaric and inhumane and parallels dog fighting. At least 3,600 fox have died in pens across Virginia in the last three years alone. In many cases, the wild canids are mauled to death by the dogs.

Penning facilities transmit diseases between wild canids and domestic animals, including rabies and parasites. Wild animals sold into these facilities are often transported from out of state without regulation or inspection.

Virginia lacks the resources to enforce the proposed regulations. There are too few conservation police officers to properly oversee that penning facilities follow the regulations.

By allowing for penning operators to waive out of minimal requirements, such as providing food and water to the foxes who live in these pens, the proposed regulation (4VAC15-290-160) effectively leaves penning operations unregulated.

Nova Scotia: Stop the seal Slaughter
TO:  mintour@gov.ns.ca, premier@gov.ns.ca, min_env@gov.ns.ca, min_dnr@gov.ns.ca

I am shocked and appalled that the Nova Scotia government is once again allowing the slaughter of grey seal pups on Hay Island, a protected area.

The world has explicitly condemned Canada for its cruel annual harp seal hunt and Europe has banned seal products. Your decision to allow these atrocities to continue in your protected wilderness area to commercial sealers will only hurt your country because an international tourism boycott will have serious consequences on your province's tourism industry.  There are no markets for your seal products, despite what your federal officials claim, and you will only be destroying a great opportunity for tourists to visit your beautiful wilderness with living creatures and no bloodshed.  There is no credible scientific evidence that suggests killing seals will help fish stocks recover. Seal-watching could be far more profitable for Nova Scotia than seal-killing. Protecting seals in protected areas would bring many tourists eager to see those animals in their natural environment.

As someone who cares about the environment and the ethical treatment of animals, I intend to educate everyone I know that the Nova Scotia government allows defenseless seal pups to be slaughtered in protected land and provincial parks. I will not be visiting Nova Scotia and pledge to encourage and promote a tourism boycott of Nova Scotia until seals in protected areas are truly protected.

Dear Sir and Madam,

The endangered Snow leopard is a semi-large cat living in the snowy mountains of Central Asia. It has been included in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species since 1972, and has been placed in Appendix I in the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. The total mature breeding population is less than 2,500.

Bones from the endangered Snow leopard are used in traditional Chinese medicine.
When bones from the like ways endangered Tiger grew harder to obtain, bones from the Snow leopard became popular as a substitute which placed an even harder strain on the already diminished Snow leopard population.
The endangered Snow leopard is hunted to provide bones for the regional markets as well as for international trade.

I ask the Chinese government to support alternative medicines that do not include the use of endangered animals.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to you to express my greatest concern about the atrocities against the seals which has already begun in Namibia and which will last through November.  During this period, the beaches of Namibia are covered with the blood of 85,000 pups and 7,000 males (bull) seals.  This makes Namibia second only in size to the brutal Canadian slaughter.

Cape Cross is a tourist resort where seal watching is a popular attraction. The gore from the killing is cleared away before the tourists arrive and they'll never see the seal pups being herded together, away from their mothers and clubbed to death with wooden bats.  The adult male seals (bulls) are shot.   An economic report commissioned by a coalition of animal welfare groups, including Respect for Animals, concluded and demonstrated that the seals are worth more alive as a tourist attraction than dead as seal products. The two activities, the report concluded, were not compatible.

Despite repeated requests to end this cruel hunt, the Namibian government refuses to act and claims the seals are a threat to the fish populations, despite no evidence to support this claim.

The European Union has banned the import of all commercial seal products including those from Namibia.  In 2011, a boycott of Namibian tourism and Namibian products was launched in response to the continuing cruel slaughter.

I will not visit Namibia until the killing of seals is banned.

Hatem Yavuz: Stop killing seals!
TO:  Hatem Yavuz    hatemyavuz@superonline.com

Dear Hatem Yavuz,

As a Namibian Cape fur seal buyer you have recently hit the press, but not in a way you ought to be proud of as you have now become the primary supporter of one of the most cruel and violent trade:  Namibia's Cape Fur Seal skins.  Since the Canada lost its seal trade in Europe because of the EU's seal trade ban, Namibia has now become the largest seal hunter in the world, claiming notoriety as the world seal pups killer. Whether you like it or not, you as the primary buyer is directly responsible for the continuation of the brutal killings of seal pups.  If there is any doubt in your mind as to the exact cruelty involved in the killing of these infant animals, a report was compiled after extensive research done by the European Food Safety Authority and outlines welfare issues surrounding the killing of seal which concluded that the killings are unnecessarily cruel and unacceptable.

The skins are sold to you at very low prices, and the seal clubbers receive derisive wages, and are even forced to live in cardboards.  You not only are being responsible for the cruel killings of seal pups, but are also contributing with labor exploitation. If you do not care for the welfare of the animals, you could at least consider the workers welfare. These seasonal workers are poor - not immune to emotions, and certainly the brutal killings will affect them psychologically.  All the while those who profit from their trauma sit in luxury getting their hands dirty only by the immoral background of their income.

Apart from the inhumane aspects of the brutal killings, the annual seal cull lasts for 139 days in Namibia, and it immensely disturbs the seal breeding behavior in the colonies, causing them to collapse.  This in turn destroys the seal viewing ecotourism.  If the tourism industry is given a chance to grow, the then former seal-clubbers will be absorbed with permanent touristic jobs.  You are currently receiving a lot of bad publicity, and it will not go away until you have reconsidered and pulled yourself out of such a bloody and cruel business.   You are a very intelligent and ingenious man, and certainly can find other sources to continue acquiring wealth without getting yourself inside of such a despicable world:  The bloody fur trade.

PLEASE HELP STOP THE BLOODY SEAL PUP SKIN TRADE!

http://www.change.org/petitions/bring-animal-killing-artist-katinka-simonse-to-justice?utm_medium=facebook&utm_source=share_petition&utm_term=friends_wall

She has been abusing animals for years, killing as she pleases and making sordid items with their skin, calling it art.  She harbor small animals such as rabbits, cats and dogs and kill them while she films the gruesome process.  After inquiring as to why the authorities allowed this to happen, I've just learned that the laws in the Netherlands allows for pet owners to dispose of their companion animals as they please which may include torturing, maiming, and killing. Likewise, pet industries including any breeder can destroy their animals as they please (when animals are not born to specification).  Under such law, anyone with a sociopathic tendency may also use animals (claiming to be owners) to kill to satisfy their murderous instincts, involving torture as he/she may wish to inflict upon their victims.

Ladies and gentleman!  This is not what I would have expected from a country that calls itself civilized.  And this not only places tremendous stress on compassionate Dutch citizens, but also on the international animal caring community.

I am absolutely disappointed and horrified that in your country, you DO NOT care for the most vulnerable members of your society: the defenseless non-human animals.  They depend on our compassion to exist, and I do hope that you can still find some compassion in your hearts to make the necessary changes to give protection to animals in the Netherlands.

Please change the laws and prosecute people with criminal instincts such as the person, object of the above petition.

Dear Sir or Madam,

Newspapers worldwide are reporting about the extreme torture of cats that are skinned and then boiled alive by butchers in Guangdong. Thousands of cats are sold to the Guangdong restaurants, and most of these cats come from other provinces where cat nappers have become infamous all over China, terrorizing cat owners who fear that their cats may be stolen to be sent to Guangdong restaurants. The shocking side of this story that's making human beings all over the world shiver with indignation is that cats are skinned and dismembered alive, and still alive when thrown into boiling water to finally finish a most hellish suffering with their last breath.

It is with profound distress that I am writing to you regarding this most Inhumane treatment of cats and ask you wholeheartedly that you put a stop to it immediately. The West is horrified by so much vileness, and this will certainly not be a postcard that China would want for the world to see. It is because of these practices of a minority that the important and rich Chinese culture and history have become so stained and repudiated by most countries which have adhered to humane laws to protect the most defenseless members of our planet: the animals. It will not be difficult for China to adjust to this new era since most Chinese people abhor these extreme cruelties. The minority in your society who delight themselves on this type of cruel bloodshed are a few and they will only destroy China's respectability around the world. Surely, not all Cantonese are proud of the smell of blood tainting their culture and history.

Quoting General Secretary Hu Jintao on December 18, 2008 commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the reform: "the spiritual poverty is not socialism," can be translated also for non-humans as these practices are certainly a great poverty of spirit and one that will bring shame to the Chinese civilization. It is now a good opportunity to follow on his Excellency Hu Jintao's footsteps to a rich and spiritual socialism.

Respected Guangdong Provincial party committee, the provincial government, Guangzhou Municipal party committee, the municipal government leads: These acts have driven people around the world beyond their limits of forbearance. There is nothing that should justify such horror, let alone something as selfish as the culture of food based on the suffering of the innocent and the defenseless.

I appeal to your conscience and the compassion that you surely have in your hearts, to put an end to so much suffering inflicted upon the most defenseless members of your society: the animals. Please make it illegal for butchers to inflict so much pain and agony on the voiceless and defenseless animals. Please investigate these atrocities, and forbid any food and beverage that is based on cruelty, and capture and destroy the suppliers and sales of live animal companions for food, immediately. Modern laws and regulations must be instituted immediately to avoid this type of traffic and the extreme suffering involved with it. No nation should have to be embarrassed of their own country because of a minority that can only bring shame and disgrace upon itself. It would be to the great advantage of China to put an end to this horrific treatment of animals to show the world that it is also compassionate and civilized, and has the ability to be an effective part of the third Millennium

President Wu Zhaozheng
Vice President Qian Jinchao,
Beijing Zoo

Dear Sirs,

I am writing to express my deep concern about the situation of stray cats in the Beijing Zoo. The story has reached international audience, and this is how I've learned about it. This is not a criticism but some constructive suggestions that I hope you will consider. I understand that the problem with stray cats population in Beijing has increased immensely in the last few years and that they find refuge mostly on the campus of universities, communities, parks and organizations such as yours. Also, since 2007 the Beijing Zoo has become a sort of stray cats reservation, now with over 200 cats living under your protection. This has brought concerns to you regarding the spread of diseases, and the protection of birds and other critters on your grounds, prompting you to order the dismantling of homemade stray cat nests made by volunteers. This is what most concerns me, along with animal caring people worldwide.

With the winter fast approaching and the temperature in Beijing has already dropping considerably since October, the Zoo cats will not be able to survive without any shelter this winter. Their suffering will be unbearable. While I recognize that the Zoo authorities have a good reason to be concerned, I beg you to find an alternative to protect these poor animals currently under your protection. Based on our experiences in the US and Europe, I would like to respectfully offer you some suggestions and ways to carry out a solution to deal with this situation.

Firstly, your Zoo would benefit immensely by keeping an area on your property to keep the cats as a humane education center so visitors would see how beautiful and easy it is to coexist with all animals in a peaceful and humane way. It will demonstrate the rise of China also on compassion towards the most vulnerable members of your society: The animals. This would bring you a good international image of your country. The number of compassionate Chinese citizens has not gone unnoticed, throughout the world. You could be a part of this historical event by setting a an example of humane treatment of animals. My suggestions:

1) By encouraging local animal rescue organizations and volunteers to raise fund to develop the project of stray cats reservation (such as cat island or stray cat home). With so many compassionate animal caring Chinese citizens, you would have NO problem in getting the assistance of these organizations and volunteers to elaborate a design to build China's cat community, transforming it into a beautiful scenic line in the Zoo. It will attract more visitors and thus financially benefit the Zoo.

2) Local animal loving groups, volunteers and organizations will surely enhance the vaccination and sterilization on the stray cats, and the weak and the sick would be transferred or humanely euthanized. They would also guarantee to keep the number of stray cats in the Zoo reservation by sterilization and adoption, never allowing the population to exceed 120 cats.

3) Publicize, through domestic and foreign media, reports of this greatly humane project as a model for other organizations to follow. Your Zoo would be commended not only at home but also abroad. On my part, I would make sure to spread the word to all my listings and social pages about your good deed. Your supervision and guidance are greatly welcome.

I am writing to urge you to ask the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress to establish animal protection legislation in China as early as possible. Currently in China there is no legislation to protect animals against cruelty by individuals or ensure the needs of animals and acceptable welfare standards maintained in different industries. Inhumane and cruel treatment towards these animals cannot currently be stopped by legal action. People throughout the world, as well as Chinese citizens, are constantly shocked by online publications by individuals in China of extreme animal torture and encouragement to kill animals. There are an increasing number of cases where individuals torture animals and publicize widely on the internet their abuse and the satisfaction they get from such acts. Research has proven repeatedly that animal abuse and violent behavior in society are strongly linked.

To name just a few of these examples, please see the links below.

China’s production ability has been demonstrated globally, as products made in China are seen all over the world, but unfortunately these acts by a minority in your country continue to stain China’s image worldwide, and keep millions of compassionate citizens in constant distress. It also makes China rank as one of the cruelest country to animals on the planet. Please show your power and determination to end these abuses by establishing laws that will protect animals and prosecute the offenders.

Yours sincerely,

Please Outlaw American Rodeo In China. Rodeo is NOT American Culture!

To the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress,
Chairman Wu Bang Guo
Dear Chairman Wu,

I am writing to you to express my greatest concern about your intention to bring American rodeo to China as part of the “American culture”.  What you may not be aware of is that rodeo is NOT a part of the culture of most Americans.  Americans in general are compassionate people and rodeos are a part of a culture that most Americans are disgraced and embarrassed about, not proud of.

I urge you to reconsider this decision to bring American rodeo to your country.  Years of investigations have revealed horrific animal cruelty in American rodeos.  Animals not only suffer during this despised spectacle, but many are also killed during the event.  We do not wish this to Chinese citizens or anyone else in a world already full of violence.  If you would like to bring American culture to China, please find a vast number of events that we are proud of, and which truly reflects the compassion of American people and culture.

The Rodeo organizers say that they have humane laws and regulations that protect the performing animals, but this is what they want people to believe.  Just as a simple example, this past July 24, 2011, a horse was cruelly killed in a rodeo performance in Cheyenne, Wyoming.  These are not a rare occurrence. The links below show the aforementioned horse’s death and a second horse injured all in the same event:

Please reject American rodeo in China as it will only reflect poorly on your country.

Sincerely,

Help Support the Fur Labeling Act
TO: *find your local representatives

The European Parliament has outlawed dog and cat fur, and more recently seal trade products, and both laws have NO loopholes that will leave room for such merchandise to sneak into any European country.

In the United States, where we should take pride on the dog and cat fur supposed to have been banned a decade ago, the $150 loophole made a mockery of the same law.  Because of this loophole, we cannot say that cat and dog fur is really outlawed in the United States, can we?

The $150 loophole which states that any fur item that costs less than $150 does not need to be labeled has offered dog and cat fur trade an open door in the United States.  These furs, and others, coming from animals such as rabbit and fox are considered budget fur and their cost is usually under the $150 price. Therefore, U.S. residents may be unknowingly wearing pets since no one can tell what one is buying unless DNA tests are performed and that costs about $500 per test.

The harvesting of fur in China is hidden from unsuspecting consumers who may have no idea that each fur article comes with an unimaginable amount of pain and agony to innocent animals. All fur items regardless of their price SHOULD BE LABELED stating exactly what kind of animal was used so the public can make a conscientious decision when purchasing their merchandise.

As your constituent, I ask you to please support the Bill H.R.2480 and its related bill S.1076.

Sincerely,

TO: 110@gdga.gov.cn

Sirs:

What will it take for you to stop the bloody massacre of defenseless marine mammals? Due to arrogance, greed and stupidity, our oceans have been raped clean. The seas are vast dead zones. The scapegoating of these seals and other creatures who belong, continues without reflection or remorse. You have denied the compassionate a voice in this war on wildlife, stripping generations of the opportunities to appreciate the enormous contributions that these creatures make to our planet. You have broken the delicate chain of life in all its God-given perfection. You are blind, and that blindness is killing us all. I, my friends, family and co-workers will be boycotting ALL goods, services and travel to your country. We will do everything within our power to stop your mindless destruction. I sincerely hope that the specter of a sharp economic decline will help you realize that these animals are valuable, they are revered, not for the currency their body parts bring, but because they have a right to a peaceful existence, the same right that you so pompously afford yourselves, but deny others.

À Excelentíssima Senhora Presidente da República
Dilma Roussef

Senhora Presidente:

Atenciosamente,

Dear Governor Schweitzer,

It is with great regret that I write to you about the recently passed bill HR 418.  The reinstitution of horse slaughtering facilities in the United States is a grave concern of both myself and many others.  The practice of horse slaughter is cruel and inhumane and has no place within the borders of the United States of America.  As well, in the past, horse slaughtering facilities have been a strain on the communities in which they reside, while giving no economic benefits.  These facilities are notorious for their pollution and unsanitary practices, leaving many communities unable to cope with the resulting problems.  The only ones who benefit from such facilities are the rich foreign corporations that exploit the horses for their own gain.  The result of this is the needless slaughter of thousands of American horses.

The United States does not need to sink to the level of other countries that support the cruel and inhumane practice of horse slaughter.  The levels of cruelty in horse slaughtering facilities outside of the United States are well documented.  It would be a tragedy for the United States to become associated with such barbaric and cruel practices.  The United States has always been a leader in the humane treatment of all living beings, and should continue to be so.

The fact is that Americans do not eat horses, and we do not raise them for human consumption.  The horse is an icon of our history, traditions, and culture for the American people and the American people do not wish to see their horses slaughtered at home or abroad.  Please veto HR 418 and support the wishes of the American people.

Sincerely,

In your hands is the power to save the lives of hundreds of thousands of helpless seal pups in Canada which will die from a miserable, premature death simply for vanity and extra bucks for the multi-billion dollar fur industry.

The seals are already threatened by global climate change, and with the global warming more and more newborn seal pups will drown due to sparse, thin ice.  Therefore, the commercial slaughter of seal pups in Canada supported by its government is a reckless disregard for the ocean ecosystems, not to mention the horrendous cruelty to seal pups that are cruelly slaughtered and even skinned alive.

Canada's promise of a "humane" killing is contemptible and should be rejected immediately. There is no wild animal "humane killings" -- Even if there was such a thing, how would anyone supervise Canadian seal killers to become humane when they are infamous for being cruel and heartless?

I am counting on the principle that Europe, as the cradle of world civilization, should continue acting as such.  Europe should send out the right message to the world, and not stoop so low as to cover itself with the blood of the innocent so Canada can make a few extra dollar.

Therefore, I am writing to appeal to your conscience and your compassion to vote for a complete ban on seal products in Europe since it is NOT needed, and can only bring shame upon Europe.

Sincerely,

Presidente Felipe Calderon Hinojosa
Estados Unidos de México

Sr. Presidente:

ENGLISH VERSION -------------------------------------------------

Dear President Calderon:

It is with extreme repulsion and sadness that I saw photos and videos of  how slaughter is performed in horse slaughter "plants" of San Barnabe.  Old horses, young, healthy, sick, pregnant mares...none escape the inhumane, indeed barbarian deaths at the hands of cold hearted butchers.  It seems that in your country there is an extreme lack of humanity!

Dear Mr. President, however much in need of income the people of San Bernabe might be, nothing in this world can justify so much barbarianism and pain inflicted on defenseless animals. Horses, after a life of service to their owners, are discarded in San Bernabe to meet with unspeakable deaths.  In the third Millenium, such barbarianism is no longer acceptable in any civilized society.

Europeans are the main consumers of horse meat, but they surely are not aware of the horse slaughter monstrosity and lack of hygiene of San Barnabe.  It is imperative that the European Parliament, and their public become aware of how tortured their meat was since there are still people in this world with a minimum of human decency.

San Bernabe is giving Mexico a very bad reputation in the international community. Please be informed that I will not be visiting Mexico until horse slaughter is banned, nor will I be purchasing any products made in Mexico. This information has been sent worldwide to friends, family and groups that I participate. They in turn, are also sending this information to their friends, relatives and internet groups.

Please do the moral thing and stop this barbarism.

Sincerely,
